“Consistency” is the “holy grail” of fitness, but how do you get it? A fitness professional argues that “consistency” is an equation, and the variables are all in your mindset. If your “mindset equation” is wrong, “consistency” is impossible. Here are the three variables you need to solve.
The first variable is Pace. The “hypersonic” pace (P) of “instant results”-seeking is the “consistency killer.” A veteran coach explains this (P) leads to burnout and “going in circles.” The “consistency equation” requires (P) to be slow and deliberate. A patient, careful (P) is the only one you can be “consistent” with. This “slow” (P) is what leads to faster, permanent progress.
The second variable is Focus. A “focus” (F) on results (the scale) is an “uncontrollable variable.” It creates anxiety and “breaks” the equation. The “consistency equation” requires (F) to be on your efforts. A fitness expert insists you must focus on what you can control.
This means your (F) must be on controllable, daily actions: your (S)leep, your (H)ydration, your (M)ovement. This (F) is “controllable” and “consistent.” This leads to the third variable: Change. A “big, drastic” (C)hange is a “high-risk variable” that “breaks” the equation. The “consistency equation” requires (C) to be small and manageable. A “small” (C)hange is a “low-risk variable” that solves the “consistency equation” every time.
