Canada and India Strengthen Ties Through Strategic Cooperation on Trade, Energy, and Security

Date:

Canada and India are set to deepen their partnership through a new framework for strategic cooperation covering trade diversification, energy transformation, and security. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand will arrive in New Delhi on Sunday for meetings with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, marking her first visit to India since entering politics in 2019.
During her visit, Anand will also travel to Mumbai to engage with Canadian and Indian business leaders focusing on investment, job creation, and economic growth in both countries. Following her India engagements, she will visit Singapore and China to advance Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, emphasizing partnerships that promote stability and sustainable development across the region.
Highlighting India’s emergence as the world’s fourth-largest economy, Canada reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening commercial ties with India, particularly in agriculture, critical minerals, and energy. The visit follows recent diplomatic progress under Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 summit in Kananaskis, signaling a new phase of collaboration between Ottawa and New Delhi.
