Indian Airlines Issue Safety Assurances as Ethiopian Volcano Ash Drifts Toward Region

Date:

Indian carriers IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air have assured passengers of uninterrupted and safe operations after ash from Ethiopia’s Hayli Gubbi volcano began drifting toward parts of India. The airlines stated that they are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with international aviation authorities and will take all necessary precautions to ensure flight safety.
IndiGo said its teams are tracking the ash cloud’s movement continuously and are prepared with precautionary measures to maintain safe operations. Air India also confirmed that while the ash has been detected over certain regions, there has been no significant impact on its flights so far. Both airlines emphasized that passenger safety remains their highest priority, with ground staff ready to support travelers.
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport issued an advisory noting that airspace over parts of West Asia may be affected, potentially impacting some international routes. Passengers were urged to check flight status with their airlines before heading to the airport.
Akasa Air likewise confirmed that it is assessing the situation in line with global aviation advisories. Meteorological agencies reported that although the eruption has stopped, a large ash plume is moving toward northern India. Authorities and airlines continue to track developments to safeguard air travel.
