‘Fake News!’ Trump Denies Missile Approval Amid Sanctions Rollout

Date:

President Trump is crying “FAKE NEWS!” over reports his administration approved Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles inside Russia, even as his Treasury Department rolled out major new sanctions against the Kremlin.
On social media, Trump blasted a story about British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles. “The U.S. has nothing to do with those missiles, wherever they may come from, or what Ukraine does with them,” he wrote.
The denial came as the administration sanctioned Rosneft and Lukoil, Russia’s two largest oil companies. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the move was to cut off funding for the “Kremlin’s war machine” due to Putin’s “refusal to end this senseless war.”
The sanctions are the first of the new Trump term and mark a significant hardening of policy. This was reinforced by Trump’s cancellation of a planned summit with Vladimir Putin.
The president said he scrapped the meeting because “it didn’t feel right.” This combined with the new sanctions signals a significant breakdown in US-Russia relations.
