In a recent meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the focus was on reinforcing the cooperative ties between China and India. Wang Yi emphasized the importance of maintaining the positive trajectory in their bilateral relations by advocating for enhanced high-level exchanges and expanding cooperation across various sectors such as trade, media, culture, and people-to-people connections. He also highlighted the need for managing sensitive issues through dialogue and urged both nations to work together on regional and international matters. According to Wang, collaboration between China and India is crucial for promoting multipolarity and representing the interests of developing countries.

During the discussions, Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s support for India’s role in hosting the BRICS summit this year and called for increased collaboration within the enlarged BRICS framework. This indicates Beijing’s commitment to fostering a cooperative relationship with New Delhi, especially within multilateral platforms that aim to enhance the influence of emerging economies on the global stage.

On his part, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to nurturing a positive and cooperative relationship with China. He reaffirmed India’s longstanding positions on sensitive issues concerning Taiwan and Xizang (Tibet), underscoring India’s respect for China’s sovereignty. This exchange reflects India’s diplomatic stance on maintaining a stable and constructive engagement with its populous neighbor.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers signals ongoing efforts by both China and India to stabilize and deepen their bilateral relations. This is especially significant following recent improvements in ties, as both nations continue to navigate their complex relationship marked by historical tensions and contemporary cooperation opportunities.
