Delhi-NCR Sees Rainfall, Orange Alert Issued as Temperatures Dip

Date:

Delhi and the National Capital Region witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Friday morning, bringing brief relief from pollution and intensifying winter conditions. Areas including Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad experienced drizzle, leading to a slight improvement in air quality, with the AQI recorded at 297 in the early hours.

The weather department has issued an orange alert for the region, warning of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 40–60 kmph, with unstable weather conditions continuing through the day due to an active western disturbance over northwest India.

Temperatures are likely to fall further over the next 24 hours. While Delhi recorded a minimum of 12°C and a maximum of 19°C on January 23, the mercury is expected to dip to 7°C (minimum) and 17°C (maximum) on January 24, making conditions colder.

Cloudy skies with intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day, with another spell of light rain possible in the afternoon or evening. Residents have been advised to remain cautious due to gusty winds, lightning and shallow morning fog that may affect visibility and commuting.
