During a recent meeting at the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his eagerness to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he welcomed India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for a two-day visit to Moscow. Putin conveyed his best wishes to Modi through Jaishankar and mentioned that he hoped their forthcoming meeting could be aligned with events related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Additionally, Putin is anticipated to travel to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled for September.
Highlighting the burgeoning trade relations between Russia and India, Putin noted an increase in Moscow’s fertiliser supplies to India, emphasizing their readiness to further expand these provisions. This development underscores the strengthening economic ties between the two countries amid global geopolitical shifts.
In a separate engagement, Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, focusing on enhancing bilateral trade and economic collaboration. Manturov suggested the possibility of Russia localizing nuclear fuel production within India, a move that could deepen technological and industrial cooperation between the two nations.
During his visit, Jaishankar is also expected to hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. These discussions are anticipated to cover a wide range of topics including bilateral relations, as well as significant regional and global issues, reflecting the strategic partnership between the two countries.
