Opsio, a Swedish company specializing in cloud and artificial intelligence solutions, has introduced PrismIQ, a cutting-edge automated visual inspection service aimed at enhancing the manufacturing process by detecting production defects in real-time. India has been chosen as the first market to commercially adopt this technology, with plans for a broader global release in the future.
PrismIQ integrates industrial cameras with sophisticated deep-learning models tailored to each manufacturer’s specific products. This system is capable of identifying various production issues, including surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional discrepancies, and assembly errors during the production process. Installed on edge hardware directly on production lines, the technology allows for rapid processing of inspection results, minimizing reliance on manual checks. Furthermore, the system’s data can be linked to existing PLC and SCADA infrastructures, facilitating automated sorting and decision-making on the production line.
Opsio highlights that PrismIQ is designed to overcome the challenges associated with manual inspections, particularly in high-speed manufacturing environments where inspecting each product individually can be impractical. The platform utilizes an active-learning system that continuously refines its detection models using production data. Unlike standalone vision software, PrismIQ is delivered as a comprehensive service. Opsio manages all aspects, including camera, lens, and lighting configuration, model development and validation, integration with factory systems, and ongoing operation. The service package also offers operator training, quality monitoring dashboards, and regular performance evaluations.
The typical timeline for implementing this technology ranges from an initial feasibility assessment to full production deployment within eight to 12 weeks. India was selected for the initial rollout due to its rapidly growing manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established operations in the country, including an AI Lab in Bengaluru dedicated to developing and testing industrial AI solutions. The technology itself is developed at Opsio’s headquarters in Karlstad, Sweden. PrismIQ is currently available to manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors, with engagements starting from a feasibility study and proof-of-concept using the manufacturer’s product samples.
Daniel Hedlund, Chairman of Opsio, emphasized the significance of quality in transforming India’s rapid manufacturing growth into sustained global competitiveness. Praveena Shenoy, Opsio India’s Country Manager, added that the company anticipates that automated inspection will enable manufacturers to identify defects earlier, thereby enhancing their quality-control processes.
