At the fourth edition of the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the significant advancements in Uttar Pradesh’s defence manufacturing sector. He highlighted the BrahMos missiles produced in the state, asserting that their development was causing strategic concern for neighboring Pakistan. Shah’s remarks underscored the growing investments in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, which includes key nodes in Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur.
The BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow, a pivotal component of this industrial expansion, was spotlighted by Shah. This facility, inaugurated in May 2025, is responsible for the assembly, integration, and testing of the supersonic cruise missile. The first batch of BrahMos missiles manufactured at this site was dispatched in October 2025. The establishment of the facility, with an investment of approximately ₹300 crore over nearly 200 acres, aims to bolster indigenous defence production and foster ancillary industries and skilled employment opportunities.
Additionally, Shah highlighted the production of AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi as an example of Uttar Pradesh’s enhanced capabilities in defence manufacturing. He attributed the influx of investments to the state’s improving law-and-order conditions and a burgeoning industrial base. According to Shah, initiatives like the One District, One Product scheme have been instrumental in expanding local industries, thereby generating more employment prospects for the youth of Uttar Pradesh.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, taking place from September 25 to 29, serves as a platform for manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers to converge, showcasing the state’s industrial potential. Shah’s address at the event highlighted the strategic importance of Uttar Pradesh’s defence sector developments and their broader economic implications.
