Beginning October 1, the state of Maharashtra has instituted a new requirement for property registration, mandating Aadhaar authentication as a measure to prevent fraud and enhance identity verification. This directive applies to 63 different types of property-related registrations, including sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds. The move is part of a broader effort by the state government to reduce instances of impersonation, fake documentation, and excessive human intervention in the registration process.
According to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the introduction of Aadhaar authentication is intended to streamline and secure property transactions. For individuals who do not possess an Aadhaar number, the government has stipulated that they must provide proof of having applied for Aadhaar, accompanied by other government-issued identity documents. Once submitted, this information will undergo verification before the transaction can be finalized.
Special provisions have been outlined for minors and specific eligible categories to ensure inclusivity. Children who do not have an Aadhaar number will not be barred from receiving property registration benefits solely due to the absence of this identification number. These measures highlight the state government’s commitment to making the property registration process more transparent and efficient.
The implementation of these new requirements is seen as a crucial step in enhancing the security of property transactions in Maharashtra. By reducing the potential for fraudulent activities, the government aims to foster greater confidence in the integrity and transparency of property dealings within the state.
