EU Hits Back at Trump’s 50% Tariff Threat, Vows to Defend Its Interests

Date:

President Trump’s threat to impose a sweeping 50% tariff on all European Union imports has triggered a fierce backlash across Europe. Trump, frustrated by stalled negotiations, accused the EU of exploiting the US and announced the punitive measure on his Truth Social platform, sending shockwaves through global markets.

In response, EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič declared that Europe would not be intimidated, insisting that any trade deal must be built on “mutual respect, not threats.” European leaders from Berlin to Dublin echoed his defiance, warning of tough countermeasures and emphasizing that the EU stands ready to protect its economic interests if talks collapse.
