Arya Singh, a candidate for the NEET-UG 2026 from Kanpur, along with her father, Rakesh Singh, a former soldier, has embarked on a sit-in protest outside the National Testing Agency (NTA) office in Delhi. This action comes after the NTA rejected allegations that Arya’s exam results had been tampered with. The protest is in response to the NTA’s assertion that complaints by several candidates about discrepancies between their official results and OMR answer sheets are unfounded. The agency has dismissed the circulating images on social media as being fabricated, digitally altered, or AI-generated, asserting they do not align with their official records.
Arya Singh has claimed that her score from the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination was altered after the results were published. Initially, she saw her score reflected as 570, which was later changed to 167. She reported that the OMR sheet she received from the NTA was flawed, citing issues such as a missing question number and duplicate serial numbers. After she raised her concerns, Arya alleged that the agency provided another OMR sheet, this time showing a score of 609 marks.
Her father, Rakesh Singh, expressed dissatisfaction with the NTA’s response and vowed to continue the protest until they receive a satisfactory explanation. He has also called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step in and address what he terms as irregularities in the examination process.
The NTA has refuted these accusations, maintaining that all original OMR sheets are consistent with the declared scores. The agency emphasized that official examination documents are equipped with secure identifiers, including barcodes and QR codes, to prevent any tampering.
This controversy is tied to the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination held on June 21, following the cancellation of the original exam in May due to accusations of a paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the case.
