Matt Cameron’s 27-Year Ride with Pearl Jam Reaches Its Final Beat

Date:

Pearl Jam is turning a page in its storied history as Matt Cameron steps down after an influential 27-year run as the band’s drummer. The 62-year-old announced his decision to leave via social media, thanking fans and bandmates for a journey filled with artistry and growth.
Cameron first joined Pearl Jam in 1998 as a temporary fill-in for Jack Irons. But his chemistry with the group quickly made him an indispensable member. His first studio appearance on Binaural helped usher in a fresh era for the band.
Though not a founding member, Cameron brought vital stability to Pearl Jam’s rhythm section. His ability to juggle his commitments with Soundgarden between 2010 and 2017 is a testament to his exceptional musicianship and professionalism.
Cameron’s final act with the band was their tour promoting Dark Matter. With his departure, Pearl Jam loses more than a drummer—they lose a key architect of their modern identity.
