Dense Fog and Smog Disrupt Life Across India as Winter Chill Deepens

Date:

Large parts of India experienced dense fog and smog on Thursday morning as winter conditions intensified, leading to reduced visibility and disruptions to daily life. North and central regions were particularly affected, with foggy conditions causing delays in transport services and prompting safety advisories.
In Delhi, dense fog led to the implementation of low-visibility procedures at the city’s main airport. Authorities advised passengers to stay in touch with airlines for real-time flight updates, although operations were largely continuing despite reduced visibility. The capital also remained covered in thick smog, with air quality reaching unhealthy levels in several areas.
Fog was not limited to the national capital. Parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Kanpur, witnessed heavy fog, resulting in train delays as the cold wave tightened its grip. Central and western regions were also affected, with Mumbai experiencing a layer of smog in key business districts. Air quality readings in the city remained in the moderate range.
The widespread fog highlights the combined impact of winter chill and rising pollution levels, affecting visibility, transportation, and air quality across several states.
