Global Excitement Builds Around India’s Gaganyaan Mission: Shubhanshu Shukla to PM Modi

Date:

Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla shared with Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the world is showing immense interest in India’s upcoming Gaganyaan mission. During their interaction on August 18, Shukla recalled how his fellow astronauts from the Axiom-4 mission were eager to know more about India’s first human spaceflight and even expressed a desire to witness the launch in person.
Shukla also discussed his experiences aboard the International Space Station, where he adapted to micro-gravity and carried out scientific experiments. He emphasized that his international crew members were highly enthusiastic about India’s progress in human space exploration, often requesting to be part of future missions.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that Shukla’s mission is a stepping stone for India’s broader space ambitions. Stressing the importance of preparedness, he said the country should aim to develop a pool of 40–50 astronauts to support upcoming space programs.
India’s roadmap includes launching the Gaganyaan human spaceflight in 2027, setting up its own space station by 2035, and eventually sending an astronaut to the Moon by 2040. Modi said Shukla’s journey to the ISS will significantly contribute to achieving these milestones.
