The Lok Sabha witnessed a fiery debate when Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of sanctioning the use of force against students protesting the NEET paper leak incident. Gandhi asserted that the deployment of pellets on the demonstrators was approved at the highest echelons of the government. Kiren Rijiju, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, demanded that Gandhi provide evidence to substantiate his claims, labeling the accusations as unfounded. Rijiju urged that Gandhi’s remarks be expunged from the official records and insisted on an apology from him, emphasizing that such grave allegations should not be made without concrete proof.
The session became more contentious when Gandhi criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), employing language that Speaker Om Birla deemed “unparliamentary.” Consequently, these remarks were removed from the parliamentary records.
