As part of a broader initiative to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth, the West Bengal government is set to enter into a significant agreement with the central government. On September 28, the two entities will formalize plans to develop a new airport in Purulia district under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, according to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
The proposed airport in Purulia is anticipated to play a pivotal role in boosting air connectivity in the region. This development is expected to not only improve transportation but also catalyze tourism, infrastructure, and industrial growth within the district. Preparations for the airport are reportedly complete, with the state government having already submitted an application for the necessary licensing. Discussions have also involved representatives from civil aviation authorities, indicating a collaborative approach to the project.
Chief Minister Adhikari has highlighted the airport project as a cornerstone for attracting substantial investments to Purulia. The state government is actively seeking investors in key sectors such as defense, steel, cement, and solar energy. This strategic focus on investment could potentially lead to an influx of around ₹1 lakh crore over the coming year, driving economic development in the district.
