Israel’s leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, is taking control of Gaza’s future, declaring that his government will have the final say on which nations participate in a peacekeeping force. This comes as a Trump-brokered truce is tested by an armed Hamas.
“Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us,” Netanyahu said, claiming the US supports this. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in Israel, affirmed this, stating the force must be “comfortable” for Israel.
Rubio also made it clear that Hamas will be excluded from power. Netanyahu has already signaled this veto would be used to block Turkish involvement, following a diplomatic spat.
The truce is fragile. An Israeli strike on the Nuseirat camp was called a “clear violation” by Hamas. Moreover, the slow return of hostage remains has prompted a warning from Trump.
